The client's challenge
The dentist wanted to break away from the clinical, hospital-like aesthetic of traditional practices and create a high-end space where patients would feel welcomed from the sidewalk onward. The challenge was to transform a 110 m² commercial unit into a functional, quiet and breathable dental clinic — with acoustic privacy between rooms, constant air renewal, controlled natural light and greenery — without compromising strict biosafety standards. The project also had to meet the criteria of the Healthy Building Certificate (HBC) and become a reference in the health of the built environment.
The design solution
The studio designed a living façade with a vertical garden and dark slatted panels that filter direct sunlight and urban noise, creating a gradual transition between the street and the space of care. The reception was designed as an extension of the treatment itself: neutral tones, natural wood, diffuse lighting and greenery reduce waiting-room anxiety. In the treatment room, the practitioner's desk, the patient's reclining chair and a handwashing sink were integrated into a single visual and functional flow, while acoustic isolation and properly sized air renewal ensure comfort and air quality. The sterilization flow was organized as a one-way path, and every finish was chosen for low volatile-compound emissions. The result was the first dental clinic in Brazil approved by the HBC.
The clinic's façade works as an extension of the treatment: a vertical garden, warm lighting and dark slatted panels filter street noise and create a gradual transition between Brasília's commercial district and the space of care.
The reception relies on diffuse lighting, glare-free surfaces and natural tactile materials to reduce patient anxiety even before treatment begins. The perforated wooden partition lets light and greenery through, preserving visual privacy without isolating the space.
In the treatment room, the proximity of the practitioner's desk, the reclining chair and the sink organizes care into a single, fluid flow. Acoustic isolation, properly sized air renewal and washable, low-emission finishes meet biosafety standards and the criteria of the Healthy Building Certificate — which recognized the project as the first approved dental clinic in Brazil.
