Renovation of the outdoor and gourmet area of a residence in Curitiba: a support kitchen with a dark island, an integrated dining table and glass window frames that extend the gathering space to the garden and pool.

The client's challenge
The client wanted to turn the residence's outdoor and gourmet area into a continuous gathering space, but the support kitchen was isolated, the dining table was poorly positioned and the connection with the garden and pool was fragmented. The challenge was to reorganize the space to welcome family and friends with thermal comfort, natural light and functional flow, without losing the elegance of the materials.
The design solution
We reorganized the outdoor kitchen around a dark island with a stone countertop and tall stools, which serves as a support point between the barbecue, the kitchen and the dining table. The round table with wood and straw chairs was positioned next to the glass window frames, which open up completely and dissolve the boundary between indoors and outdoors. The dark wood-look porcelain flooring and the deep-toned millwork give unity to the space, while recessed lighting and illuminated niches create a welcoming atmosphere at dusk. The project included the specification of finishes, custom millwork, layered lighting design and furniture that withstands frequent use without losing its sophistication.
The renovation started from the idea that the outdoor and gourmet area should function as a single open-air living room. The central island organizes the flow between the barbecue, the sink and the table, allowing whoever is cooking to take part in the conversation.
The floor-to-ceiling glass window frames slide open sideways and extend the gathering space toward the garden and pool. Natural light floods in abundantly during the day, while recessed lighting and illuminated niches create a welcoming atmosphere at night.
The dark, sophisticated palette of the millwork and flooring contrasts with the brightness of the window frames and the white ceiling, creating a contemporary, timeless setting. Materials were chosen for their durability and ease of maintenance in a heavily used area.
The result is a reception space that invites daily use and celebrations alike, integrating indoors and outdoors naturally and elegantly.
