The client's challenge
The architectural project needed to reconcile the contemporary language desired by the client with the summer-house mood and the integration with the Curitiba site. The challenge was to create a façade that was light yet protected, one that would engage with the front garden and ensure privacy without closing the house off from the street, while also choosing materials that would age well and require little maintenance.
The design solution
We designed a clear massing in sand tones, with eaves that protect the openings and give depth to the façade. The white window frames were arranged to capture natural light in all the social areas while still preserving the bedrooms' privacy. The front garden was conceived as an extension of the architecture: prominent palm trees, a uniform lawn and tall vegetation that cool the entrance and create a smooth transition between the street and the interior. The exterior cladding and the eaves were specified to withstand climate variations well, while the neutral palette keeps the house timeless and in dialogue with the landscaping.
The architecture of the residence starts from a simple idea: the house should look as if it had always existed on the site. The sand-toned massing, with generous eaves and white window frames, creates a façade that is contemporary yet welcoming, one that does not compete with the greenery of the garden.
The front garden was designed as an outdoor arrival room. The central palm tree organizes the composition, while the uniform lawn and the tall vegetation in the background create a natural curtain that preserves privacy without closing off the house. The entrance takes place amid greenery, preparing visitors for the lightness of the interiors.
The extended eaves protect the openings from direct sunlight and rain, reducing the need for curtains and favoring cross ventilation. The white window frames distribute natural light throughout the social areas and keep the façade's reading clean.
Low-maintenance materials and a neutral palette ensure that the house ages well, following the seasons without losing its identity. The architecture and the landscaping work together to create a summer residence that is at once sophisticated and uncomplicated.
